Ofgem wants 'simpler' energy market

The energy regulator Ofgem has published proposals for a simpler, more competitive energy market.

Among the proposals are a "no frills" tariff, with a single standing charge and protection against price rises for customers.

Research from Ofgem shows that under the plans 85% of customers would be able to spot the best deal on offer compared to the hundreds of competing deals currently available.

Ian Malee is from Ofgem and he says consumers want "a simpler energy market".
