British Airways owner to buy BMI from Lufthansa

British Airways owner IAG has agreed to buy airline BMI from Lufthansa for £172.5m, subject to approval from competition watchdogs.

The takeover, which IAG says it hopes to complete in the first three months of 2012, will give them another 56 slots at Heathrow airport.

But there are warnings that jobs could be cut, and rival Virgin says it will oppose the sale.

Richard Lister reports.
