Electric car grant scheme extended by government

The government is hoping to boost sales of electric cars by extending the amount of time that drivers can make a claim for a grant to buy one.

A grant of up to £5,000 is available for electric cars up to 2015, but only 892 were taken up in 2011.

There is now also a new grant of up to £8,000 for vans.

The BBC's Steph McGovern has been taking a look at the pros and cons of driving an electric car with motoring journalist Quentin Wilson.
