Grayling: Unemployment figures show 'signs of stabilization'

Unemployment has risen again by 28,000 during the three months to January to reach 2.67 million.

This was the smallest quarterly increase since May.

The figures also showed that the number of people employed in the public sector fell by 37,000 between September and December - but during this time private firms took on an extra 45,000 people.

Youth unemployment went up by 16,000.

Despite the rise, the Employment Minister Chris Grayling said there were indications the situation was improving.
