Why are businesses more optimistic about their future?

There are signs that things are getting better for small and medium-sized enterprises.

A CBI survey of SMEs suggests business confidence in the sector is picking up while exports are growing, according to the manufacturers body, the EEF and to RBS.

The government set a target of £1tr in exports by 2020 and to achieve this the UK will have to grow exports at the same rate as South Korea did from 1998 to 2008.

BBC Radio 5 live Wake Up To Money spoke to Peter Ibbotson, the chairman of Small Business Banking at RBS.
