Prime minister announces railway investment of £9.4bn

The Prime Minister has announced plans for a £9.4bn programme of investment for the railways in England and Wales.

The projects will include electrifying the Midland Mainline from London to Sheffield, upgrading the East Coast Main Line, and improving stations and track.

David Cameron said the investment would benefits many regions around the country.
