UK retail sales fall in December

UK retail sales fell 0.1% in December from the month before, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Compared with December 2011, the quantity of goods sold rose 0.3%, the figures show.

Kate Davies from the ONS told BBC News that this was the slowest annual growth rate for a December since 1998 - except for December 2010, when sales were hit by heavy snow.
