MPs call for tougher measures on tax avoidance

A group of MPs has claimed HM Revenue and Customs is being out-manoeuvred by the big accountancy firms, who advise people on ways to reduce their tax bills.

MPs on the Public Accounts Committee say top firms can deploy thousands of people to advise on ways to reduce tax bills.

The committee wants to stop accountants being seconded to work within government, where they can discover tax loopholes they later pass to their clients.

Simon Gompertz reports.
