Will Bernanke's plans reassure markets?

The head of the US Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, has said that he will start to wind down his massive economic stimulus programme this year and may end it in 2014 - if America's economy continues to improve.

But he emphasised that the programme was tied to economic conditions.
