Royal Mail privatisation: Union warns of risk to rural deliveries

Privatising Royal Mail could lead companies to pick and choose the most profitable areas and leave some parts of the country uncovered, the Communication Works Union (CWU) has warned.

Deputy general secretary Dave Ward told BBC News that "no law will protect" the current principle of more profitable, urban areas subsidising rural parts of the country, if that happened.

Business Secretary Vince Cable is to outline his plan for a share flotation to MPs on Wednesday.
