Barclays stock hit by £5.8bn cash call to plug shortfall

Barclays share price has fallen on news that the bank will issue £5.8bn in new shares.

The share sale is needed to plug a £12.8bn capital shortfall created by new regulatory demands aimed at ensuring banks are protected from the risk of investment losses.
