Battle for university places intense after results

Thousands of students are searching for university places through the clearing system, after the release of A-level exam results in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Thursday.

Teenagers who manage to find places now, will avoid higher tuition fees in universities in England, which start next year.

But the pressure on the admissions system was so great on Thursday, that its website crashed.
