NUT: 'Pension strike is our last resort'

Teachers unions have defended their decision to strike on Wednesday over planned changes to their pensions.

Education Secretary Michael Gove has criticised what he called union "hardliners, itching for a fight".

Kevin Courtney, the deputy general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said members had done everything they could to avoid the strike, and accused the government of refusing to negotiate seriously.
