Young musician winner 'suspends time'

Fifteen-year-old cellist Laura van der Heijden has won the BBC's Young Musician prize for 2012.

The teenager played Sir William Walton's Cello Concerto with the Northern Sinfonia at the competition's final at The Sage in Gateshead.

She told BBC Breakfast that she started playing cello at six years old after having piano lessons and learning the recorder.

Josie d'Arby, who presented the awards, said van der Heijden "managed to suspend time" during her performance.
