British author Jon McGregor 'excited' at award win

British author Jon McGregor has won the 100,000 euro (£81,000) International Impac Dublin Literary Award for his third novel, Even the Dogs.

Publisher Bloomsbury describe Even the Dogs as "an intimate exploration of life at the edges of society".

McGregor beat off competition from 146 other shortlisted titles to receive the accolade. The Top 10 was whittled down from submissions nominated by 162 public libraries from 45 countries.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award, he told the BBC's John Wilson that he'd wanted to show "the triumph of surviving".

Listen again to BBC Radio 4's Front Row in full - the programme is on weekdays on Radio 4 at 19:15.
