Author Iain Banks 'full of child-like humour'

The author Iain Banks has died aged 59, two months after announcing he had terminal cancer.

Paying tribute to him on the Today programme, fellow Scottish author Ian Rankin said: "He was very self-deprecating, full of a child-like humour and wonder about the world and an excitement about what he did."

Erica Wagner, literary editor of the Times, added that Banks's ability to write novels in various different genres was "a measure of what a remarkable writer he was and the breadth of his imagination".

First broadcast on the Today programme on Monday 10 June.
