Downton Abbey: "America loves them"

The ITV drama Downton Abbey won one award at the at this year's Emmy awards, in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Despite being nominated for 12 awards, the series only won one for music composition for a series (original dramatic score).

Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery both went home empty-handed, having been nominated for best actor in a drama series and best actress in the same category.

"ITV perhaps didn't know what they had on their hands until America started taking an interest," Julia Raeside, TV writer for the Guardian, told the Today programme
