Richard Armitage has said Arthur Miller understood the power of using parable in The Crucible.

Mr Armitage, appearing in the current Old Vic production of Miller's play, told Andrew Marr that Miller had to write about McCarthyism using an historical analogy because witch trials would "happen again and again".
