Cinematic style for the TV Emmys

Some of Hollywood's biggest film stars have graced the red carpet at the US Primetime Emmys in Los Angeles.

Notable absentees were Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman won best actor and best supporting actor in a mini-series but didn't attend the ceremony.

Sitcom Modern Family was named best comedy series for a fifth consecutive year, equalling the record set by 1990s show Frasier for most comedy wins.

Off stage, one of its stars - Sofia Vergara - wowed in white Roberto Cavalli, while other red carpet highlights included Julia Roberts, who bucked the floor-length trend in Elie Saab, and Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery in a tri-colour dress by Rosie Assoulin.
