Joan Rivers was a 'trailblazer', says comedian Eclair
The stand up comedian Jenny Eclair, who worked with Joan Rivers, said her death is a "loss" and said she was a real "trailblazer".
"She said to me 'we're both very fortunate to be ugly enough to be funny.' And it was a compliment," she told the Today programme.
"You need a Joan Rivers to break a lot of taboos and prejudices about women on stage," she added.
Joan Rivers died at the age of 81 after being on life support in New York's Mount Sinai Hospital since having a cardiac arrest in New York last week.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 5 September
