Serious flu cases on the rise in the UK

The UK Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has rejected suggestions that the decision to scrap an advertising campaign to encourage people in at risk groups to receive the flu vaccine has led to a fall in the take-up of the jab.

The number of people who are critically ill in England with confirmed or suspected flu has risen to 460, more than double last week's figure.
