Child heart surgery: Families defend Newcastle Freeman

In 1987, the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle was the first to perform a successful heart transplant on a child.

A few years later Andrew Jackson's life was also saved by a heart transplant at the hospital, something he still finds difficult to talk about.

He does not want to see it close - and nor does his mother Susan, who has spent the past 21 years raising money for the unit.
