Transplant organ fluid 'contaminated', says government

Transplant operations in the UK will continue despite concerns about contamination of the fluid used to preserve some organs, the government's chief medical officer has said.

Production of Viaspan, which is used to preserve the liver, pancreas and bowel, has been stopped and global stocks recalled after bacteria was found in the solution used to test the fluid's sterility.
