Pre-Olympics blood stocks low

An appeal for blood donors has been issued in the run-up to the Olympics.

NHS Blood and Transplant says it needs to build stocks by 30% above usual levels before the Games begin on July 27th.

There is a particular need for O-donors, whose blood can be transfused into people of any blood type.

More than a million visitors are expected in London during the Olympics, and there is concern that donations may fall once the Games get underway.

Our medical correspondent Fergus Walsh - who is O-negative - reports.
