Tony Robinson takes care home residents out for lunch

Actor and presenter Tony Robinson spendt a week at The Royal Star and Garter nursing home in Solihull, to experience life in one of the UK's 20,000 care homes.

He befriended residents including Donald Bennett, a 94-year-old former major who won the Military Cross for bravery in World War II. Donald's wife died 14 years ago and after several recent falls, he moved into a nursing home where he had largedly stayed in his room.

When I Get Older is on Wednesday 4 July and Thursday 5 July at 21:00 BST on BBC One and forms part of the When I'm 65 season of programmes about ageing.
