Nursing regulator 'sorry' over complaints backlog

The organisation which regulates the nursing profession has been accused of putting patients at risk because it has such a huge backlog of investigations.

A review, ordered by the government, found failures at every level of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Its acting chief executive, Jackie Smith, said it was committed to improvement.
