Salt: 'A slice of bread is equal to a packet of crisps'

Cutting back on salty foods such as bacon, bread and breakfast cereals could reduce people's risk of developing stomach cancer, according to the World Cancer Research Fund.

In the UK, the WCRF said one-in-seven stomach cancers would be prevented if people kept to daily guidelines.

According Katharine Jenner, from the Consensus Action on Salt and Health, one slice of bread has as much salt as a packet of crisps.

Ms Jenner says eating less than six grammes of salt, would prevent 18,000 stroke and heart attack deaths, along with 2,000 cancer deaths.
