Doctors call for ban on cosmetic preservative MI

Doctors are calling for a ban on a chemical preservative found in products like make-up, sun cream and shampoo.

Some skin specialists claim the preservative, known as MI, has led to a steep rise in eczema and other skin allergies.

A report, which will be presented to the British Association of Dermatologists, claims a large number of patients have had a severe allergic reaction to the chemical.

Dermatologist, Dr Jason Williams, said cases can be severe as people do not know they are allergic to the ingredient.
