'Doctors have to work differently' - Sir Mike Rawlins

Doctors will have to change how they work to cope with an increasingly aging population, the author of a report into patient care says.

Sir Mike Rawlins of the Future Hospital Commission, which was set up by the Royal College of Physicians, says specialists will "have to return to being general physicians as well as specialists", in order to properly care for elderly patients who present with multiple conditions.

The report says change must happen to ensure patients are treated compassionately despite increasing demands on medical staff.
