MPs urge hospitals to display the number of nurses on duty

The number of nurses on duty on each ward should be displayed publicly to restore patient trust, according to a group of MPs.

Responding to the Francis Inquiry into what went wrong at Stafford hospital, the Health Select Committee believes greater transparency would improve care.

MPs have also called for an end to gagging clauses, encouraging staff to work in a "culture of openness".

Dominic Hughes reports.
