Can we erase memories entirely?

Most of us have terrible moments we'd rather forget, but if you could wipe parts of your memory entirely would you do it?

It's no longer just in the realms of science fiction.

New research from Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands suggests it may indeed be possible to zap specific memories, with the help of electroconvulsive therapy - a psychiatric treatment where electric currents are passed through the brain.
