Coconut oil: Apparent health benefits prompt high demand in Asia

There are a host of products which claim to be magic cures - whether it is to get rid of wrinkles, prevent cancer or protect you from the common cold.

Manuka honey, the algae called spirulina and now coconut oil have all been heralded as having special properties.

Are they food fashions or cosmetic fads or are there some facts behind the claims?
