Womb transplant baby birth gives 'hope' say doctors in Sweden

A woman in Sweden has become the first in the world to have a baby after having a womb transplant.

The 36-year-old mother, who was born without a uterus, received a donated womb from a friend last year.

Professor Mats Brannstrom of the University of Gothenburg, who led the transplant team, described the birth as a moment of ''fantastic happiness''.

And gynaecological surgeon Liza Johannesson said it gave new hope to women with the condition.
