Trans man: 'Learning to love my body'

Growing up near Boston, Massachusetts, Tony Zosherafatain was raised as a girl named Antoinette.

"I was assigned female at birth, but that's not the gender that I ever identified with," Tony says of his childhood when Antoinette played ice hockey and was considered a tomboy.

He struggled for years with his gender identity, but didn't learn the word transgender until leaving home for university. He came out as a trans man to his family and friends when he was 22, the same year he began to physically transition.

"It's not a choice," Tony says. "It's really a matter of survival to change your body."
