Mars rover's complex landing tech

Nasa is sending its most sophisticated rover yet to the Red Planet, but first the vehicle has to land safely using a system that even the mission team concedes looks a bit crazy.

The Mars Science Laboratory - also known as Curiosity - is set to touch down on Monday 6 August (GMT).

Matt Wallace, the flight system manager on the mission, told our correspondent Jonathan Amos how Nasa devised the landing system.
