Penguins' waddle investigated by scientists at London Zoo

A team of scientists at London Zoo is trying to find out why penguins waddle instead of walk.

Penguins did not always move like this, with fossils showing that their ancient ancestors moved in a different, more horizontal, way.

The scientists from the Royal Veterinary College and University of Texas are using a high-tech track to analyse how the birds get around.

Rebecca Morelle reports.
