Europe readies for solar mission

Europe is building a satellite to study the Sun that will venture closer to the solar inferno than any previous venture.

Solar Orbiter will go to within 43 million km of the Sun, and will need a titanium shield to cope with temperatures up to 600C.

Prof Louise Harra, from University College London's Mullard Space Science Laboratory, explained the purpose of the mission to our correspondent Jonathan Amos.
