Nasa starts year-long isolation to simulate Mars trip

A team of Nasa recruits is living in isolation for a year to simulate what life would be like on Mars.

Under a dome near a barren volcano in Hawaii, the six-person team are to live in close quarters, without fresh air, fresh food or privacy.

A French astrobiologist, a German physicist and four Americans - a pilot, an architect, a journalist and a soil scientist - make up the team.

Laura Bicker reports.
