Students' vehicle aims for 3,000 miles to the gallon in US challenge

A team of students from California Polytechnic are fine tuning a vehicle they hope can achieve 3,000 miles to the gallon.

They are preparing to take part in the Shell Eco Marathon in Houston, USA, where 50 teams are set to compete later this month.

The competition is designed to raise awareness about fuel efficiency.

The prototype vehicle can travel between 10 and 25mph.

Previous vehicles the team has made have achieved over 2,500 miles to the gallon.

Students Ann Peters and Gabriel Mountjoy explained the secrets to fuel efficiency.
