The apps helping keep Rio's citizens safe from crime

Rio de Janeiro is known for its high crime rate but now people are starting to use smartphone apps to keep themselves safe.

Two companies, OTT and Cross-fire are crowdsourcing information about violence in the city. The data alerts residents to incidents in real time and collates statistics about where crime is committed.
