Birmingham City Council 'failing to protect' vulnerable children
A scathing report by Ofsted inspectors has warned that Birmingham City Council is failing to protect some of the most vulnerable children in its area.
Social workers and managers at the council have been rated inadequate - the lowest possible ranking. Inspectors said "critical deficiencies remain in front-line work with children" with managers not knowing how many cases are being dealt with.
Failings were highlighted after Khyra Ishaq, aged seven, was starved to death by her mother and stepfather in 2008.
Alison Holt reports.
