FSA admits more clone-linked beef in UK food chain

Meat from a second offspring of a cloned cow has entered the food chain, the Food Standards Agency has revealed.

It comes after it emerged that two bulls from embryos of a cow cloned in the US were bought by a farm near Nairn in the Highlands, and meat from one was sold to consumers.

The FSA has admitted it does not know how many embryos from cloned animals have been imported into Britain, but chief Tim Smith insists he has no safety concerns about the meat.

Jeremy Cooke reports.
