Credit firms to check claimants

Private credit reference companies are going to be used by the government to track down benefit cheats.

The companies will be paid according to the number of bogus claimants they uncover.

The Prime minister says the government will "strain every sinew" to reduce the five billion pounds lost through benefit fraud and administrative error.

But Labour says the government's economic policies will actually increase the number of people on benefits.

Vicki Young reports.
