Cameron defends plans for child benefit cuts due in 2013

David Cameron has hinted that married couples could get a tax allowance to help compensate for the loss of child benefit.

It was announced yesterday that child benefit will be taken away from families where one parent is a higher-rate tax-payer.

Mr Cameron accepted that the change was unpopular especially with mothers who stay at home.
