British aid worker killed during rescue mission

A British aid worker who was being held hostage in Afghanistan has been killed by her captors.

Linda Norgrove, who was 36 and from the Isle of Lewis, died during a rescue attempt by American forces, which had British approval.

It is understood eight insurgents were killed during the battle to free her.
