Search and rescue fleet 'could be privatised'

More than half of coastguard stations across the country could be closed as part of the government's spending cuts.

The UK's search and rescue helicopter fleet, which is currently run by the RAF and the Royal Navy, plus civilian helicopters through the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) will be taken over by a private company.

The government is expected to confirm further details this week.
