New guidance given to vicars to avoid conducting sham marriages

The Church of England is issuing new guidance to vicars to try to avoid being exploited by illegal immigrants entering into sham marriages.

It will mean tougher background checks for all couples who want a Church of England service if either the bride or groom comes from outside Europe.
