Tens-of-thousands granted asylum to clear backlog claim

The UK border agency has effectively given tens-of-thousands of asylum seekers an amnesty allowing them to stay in Britain even if their cases do not warrant it.

That is the accusation from the commons Home Affairs Committee.

But the immigration minister, Damian Green, insists that the government has tightened border controls.
