Call to investigate police over 2009 hacking review

An emergency debate has taken place in the Commons about the phone-hacking scandal at the News of the World.

Former Labour police minister David Hanson suggested holding an investigation into how the police handled a review of the case in 2009 which concluded it was not worth reopening.

The Labour MP Chris Bryant, who opened the emergency debate, agreed saying it raises major constitutional issues when police officers tell "half-truths that mislead parliament".
