Transport secretary scales down major coastguard cuts
The Government has scaled down its plans for major cuts in the coastguard service.
The original proposal would have seen the number of coastguard centres reduced from 18 to eight, with only three remaining open 24 hours a day.
However, the Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has since announced that only eight stations are now to be closed.
Robert Hall reports.
